Understanding Ecuador's 'internal armed conflict' – DW – 01/14/2024

-Crime-ridden Ecuador beefed up security in preparation for the April 13 runoff presidential election. The armed forces deployed 400 troops to Manabí. This is in addition to the 2,000 troops already in the region.

-The US ramps up its fight against Mexican drug cartels. Lawmakers are reportedly looking to remove “narcocorridos”, a type of song that glorifies cartels and narco culture, from streaming platforms. Many Mexican bands playing these songs do a lot of business in the US and/or live in the US.
